Here are some easy-to-use instructions on how to get your iPhone up to the latest software version, to ensure that you have all of the latest releases and nifty tools.

Start iTunes then make sure that your iTunes is up to date by selecting Help->Check for Updates and downloading the latest version.

Once you have the latest iTunes version, connect your iPhone to the computer, using the USB adapter, and wait for iTunes to recognise it (this may take a minute).

iTunes should bring up a window like the one pictured below if you haven’t got the latest software for your iPhone installed. If it doesn’t, then repeat step 1. to check for updates manually. Click “Download and Update” to upgrade your software.

You will be presented with a couple of windows that tell you information about the software update. Click Next then wait for iTunes to download the update (this may take several minutes, depending on the speed of your Internet). Do not disconnect your iPhone while this is happening.

Once the updated software has been downloaded, it will then be applied to your iPhone. The taskbar at the top of your iTunes will continue to show you that it’s working, so don’t unplug your iPhone yet.

Your iPhone will finish the process, then you will be able to eject it safely and you’re good to go!
