Many of us couldn't live without our iPhones and find they have been seamlessly integrated into our everyday lives, but do you know how to get rid of the American spelling or how to get caps lock? Below we have useful tips and tricks for fixing those annoying little iPhone nuances and we even have a tip for having fun with your texts! You can also view our other news article for tips on how to prolong your battery life.
How to change your iPhone or iPad to UK spelling
If you get frustrated with the auto spell check on your iPhone Americanising all of your spelling, use this tip to change to the UK spelling format.
Go to:
Settings -> General -> Keyboard
Click "International Keyboards"
Click "Add New Keyboard"
Click "English (UK)"
This will add it to the list. Then you need to remove the US keyboard so click the "Edit" button on the top right of the screen. Click on the red delete symbol next to "English". If needed you can use the grey lines on the right of the language to shuffle the order of the keyboards if you have more than one in your list. Click "Done".
How to get caps lock
To get caps lock when you are typing texts, double tap the Shift button (the upward pointing arrow towards the bottom left of the keyboard) and this will lock it onto caps. Now you don't need to continuously hit the Shift button before each letter if you're typing in capitals, which can be useful when typing acronyms or if you want to yell at someone! Tap the Shift button once to resume normal typing.
Keyboard autocorrect
The iPhone's autocorrect feature has to be one of the worst and the best implementations in a smart phone. Great when it works, but incredibly annoying when it autocorrects to something completely wrong, or if it doesn't recognise a word - such as your name. Fortunately the iPhone is a pretty smart cookie and it can learn new tricks. So if you have a word (such as your name) that you want the iPhone to learn, you must accurately correct it approximately 3 to 5 times and then it'll remember. You correct it by tapping the little 'x' in their suggestion box and then retype what you want.

How to install emoji icons on your iPhone
While it is probably not necessary for any business purposes, it is sometimes fun to inject images into your messages. The Emoji icon set allows you to insert smiley faces and many other icons into your notes, SMS and other text entries.
Go to:
Settings -> General -> Keyboard
Click "International Keyboards"
Click "Add New Keyboard"
Click "Emoji"
This provides the full icon suite available for use in text. On the Keyboard you'll see a globe icon on the virtual keyboard (lower left middle). Click on this to see the emoji icons, then click it again to switch back to the normal keyboard. It's been our experience that only iPhone users can see these characters, and that they look like cryptic messages on other devices.
If your iPhone does not have the emoji function, here is a simple trick that you can use to activate the emoji icon set on your phone.
Go to the AppStore on your iPhone.
Click on "Search" and type in "spell number". Install the application (at time of writing application is free).
From your Home Screen open the Spell Number application and type in 91929394.59 (including the decimal point). Click "return". Exit the application.
Go to Settings -> General -> Keyboard -> International Keyboards.
Scroll down and you should now have the Emoji keyboard option. Tap on it.
You should now have a globe icon on your virtual keyboard. If you don't, power off your iPhone, then turn it on again and the globe should hopefully be there now.
